What ZeroCost is
ZeroCost lets your histology lab put equipment on the bench, or put equipment you already own under a full-service contract, without buying either one outright.
Instead of a purchase price, a lease payment or a service contract fee, you commit to a yearly minimum spend on the consumables and supplies the lab already buys. Meet the yearly minimum and the equipment stays on your bench, or the service contract keeps running. The minimum is set by the equipment model, so it is a known number before you agree to anything.

Why the program exists
Capital is the hardest money in a lab to get approved. It competes with staffing, with the building, and with every other department, and an instrument that is working well enough today rarely wins that argument — right up until it stops working.
Supplies are different. That money is already leaving the lab every month, and it is already approved. ZeroCost exists so the same spend can do a second job: the lab gets the instrument or the service coverage it needs, and Rankin gets the supply business. It is a straightforward trade, and it is the reason the program can put equipment in a lab that has no capital budget at all.
The equipment arrives without a purchase order for the asset, and without a line on next year's capital plan.
Service is covered by an agreement rather than by whatever the next repair invoice happens to say.
The obligation sits against consumables and supplies, not against new budget you have to go and find.
Two ways to use ZeroCost
Both work the same way underneath. What differs is whether the equipment is already yours.
ZeroCost Rental
For equipment you do not own yet- ■Rankin places the equipment asset of your choosing on site. The asset remains the property of Rankin.
- ■It stays at your lab for as long as your yearly obligation for supplies spend is met.
- ■The yearly minimum spend obligation varies based on the asset model.
- ■The agreement auto-renews each year, or until termination.
- ■The option to purchase the equipment at any time is available.
ZeroCost Service
For equipment you already own- ■Put the equipment you already own under a yearly full-service contract.
- ■Instead of purchasing a service contract, you carry a yearly minimum supplies spend obligation.
- ■The yearly minimum is based on the equipment item(s) you decide to enroll. Each model has a pre-determined yearly spend minimum.
- ■Yearly preventative maintenance visits are included. PM-only agreements are not available.
- ■The agreement auto-renews.
